Installing an EV Charger at Your Bitterroot Valley Home
If you just bought an EV and want to charge it at home in Stevensville, the short answer is yes, we can almost always make it work. The real questions are where your panel sits, how much room it has left, and how far that run is to where you park. I sort all of that out before I ever quote a job.
Can my electrical panel handle a charger?
This is the first thing I look at. A Level 2 charger pulls a lot more than your standard outlets, and your panel has to have the capacity and an open spot to feed it.

Where should the charger go?
Where you park drives most of this. Attached garage, detached garage, or just a spot on the side of the house all change how I run the circuit and what the charger has to be rated for.
For an outdoor or unheated garage install here, I'm picking equipment and boxes built to take Bitterroot Valley winters. We get real cold snaps in Stevensville, and gear that's fine in a heated space can get brittle and cranky when it's sitting out in single digits.
The shorter and straighter the run from your panel to the charger, the cleaner and simpler the job. Either way, this is a dedicated circuit. It doesn't share with anything else in the house, and that's not a corner worth cutting.
What about permits and inspection?
Plan on this being permitted work. What's required for your specific address in Stevensville and Ravalli County is a question for your local permitting office, and they can confirm the details before you commit to anything.

How long does the install take?
A straightforward install where the panel has room and the run is short is usually a quick job. Add a panel upgrade or a long run through finished walls and it takes longer.
