What we handle

The scope of work

Lighting control is where electrical work becomes systems work. Most electricians can wire a light; designing a control system that runs a whole building is a different trade. It's Josh Brown's deep specialty — programmed scenes, dimming systems, occupancy and daylight controls, commercial retrofits, and the control panels behind them. He learned it on some of the most advanced buildings in the country: over a decade of multibillion-dollar commercial campus work, where the lighting systems are as sophisticated as anything built. On the residential side, that same expertise builds smart homes the right way — whole-home lighting control, automated dimming and scenes, smart panels, and the wiring that connected homes are built around. Innovation housing, planned from the studs out.

Planning new construction? The smartest time to build in lighting control and home automation is before the drywall goes up — wired in from the studs, not bolted on after. See new residential construction

Questions

Lighting Control & Smart Home — common questions

What is the difference between lighting control and just installing lights?

Wiring a light is basic electrical work. A lighting control system decides which lights come on, how bright, when, and in response to what — occupancy, daylight, time of day, or a pressed scene button. That means control panels, dimming modules, sensors, and programming. It is a distinct skill set, and it is the one Josh Brown built over a decade on some of the most advanced commercial buildings in the country.

Can you install a smart home system in an existing house?

Yes. Retrofits are very doable — smart switches and dimmers, a smart panel, whole-home scenes, and automated lighting can all go into a finished home. You get the cleanest result and the most capability when it is planned into new construction or a remodel from the start, because the wiring and the control locations can be laid out properly, but an existing home is absolutely upgradeable.

Which lighting control and smart home systems do you work with?

93 Electric works with the major commercial dimming and control platforms as well as residential smart-home ecosystems, and picks the system to fit the building and the budget rather than pushing one brand. Tell us what you want the space to do and we will tell you what actually delivers it and what it costs to run and maintain.

Is commercial lighting control worth it for a small Montana business?

Often yes, for two reasons. Occupancy and daylight controls cut lighting energy in spaces that sit empty or get good natural light, and many commercial projects need them to meet energy code anyway. Beyond the power bill, scene control makes a restaurant, showroom, or office feel deliberately lit instead of just bright.
